Car Seat Safety, Keep your child in a 5 point harness car seat as long as you can

A fellow blogger recently just wrote about her super scary experience.  She is also writing about how lucky she is that her children are still in their 5 point harness car seats, and not a booster seat.
She was even told that is the reason her nuggets are still with her, how scary is that.
Even if you have your sweetie in a booster right now, you can still move them back to a 5 point harness car seat if they meet the requirements.
We need to stop making our children grow up so fast, in this case it's a matter of life or death.

Read the whole story here.  If this doesn't make you think about your car safety, I don't know what will...

What to consider when positioning carseats for toddlers

This seems to come as a shock to many parents who have always been told that as soon as your child starts growing to turn them front facing.  PLEASE share t his with all the parents you know, together we can help spread the word to keep all the kids the safest they can be.

"Lori O’Keefe
CorrespondentNew research indicates that toddlers are more than five times safer riding rear-facing in a car safety seat up to their second birthday. Following are some safety tips forcar seat use:
All infants should ride rear-facing in either an infant carseat or convertible seat.
If an infant car seat is used, the infant should be switchedto a rear-facing convertible car seat once the maximumheight (when the infant’s head is within 1 inch of the top of the seat) and weight (usually 22 pounds to 32 pounds) have been reached for that infant seat as suggested by the car seat manufacturer.
Toddlers should remain rear-facing in a convertible car seat until they have reached the maximum height and weight recommended for the model, or at least the age of 2."

How to keep our kids warm AND safe while in a car seat

This is a wonderful thing that has been passed around on facebook.  Most of us don't realize how dangerous it is to put our sweet little nuggets into their car seat with a winter coat on.  Here is the album you can check out with pictures and information.  This is what the album's info is :

"Winter coats in car seats are NOT SAFE! Here are some tips to keep your child warm AND safe this winter.

This goes for passengers in boosters or seat belts as well. The coat will compress and leave the seat belt too loose. For infant seats, do not use bulky snow suits or a Bundle Me. Instead, use a "shower cap" style car seat cover that fits over their infant seat. (Something like this: http://amzn.to/9sJeH9 )

*PLEASE feel free to share this album! I made it public so people can repost it :)

I've been getting lots of messages so I thought I'd post this here- I am a certified CPST. (Child Passenger Safety Technician). I live in Minnesota where the winters are brutal, and my kids don't freeze. :)"

Please share this around and help spread the word
